RRD Evo 360 2006/7 (Boards Mag Test)

RRD EVOLUTION 360
Size & Style: An unusual board, as far as
we know unique in the market at the
moment. It’s basically a large freeride
shape, but configured with the soft deck
and daggerboard of a beginner / improver
board. The dimensions are 75cm wide,
230cm long and 150L of volume.
Entry Level Performance: In light winds our
testers struggled on it because it’s the
narrowest, and the tail is really quite low
volume. With the daggerboard down it can
be sailed in light winds, but it was noticeably
more wobbly than most and requires more balance.
Progessor Performance: It comes into its own when the
wind picks up. In planing conditions everyone who
could already windsurf loved it, it’s very quick to plane
and super-smooth – it feels just like a regular highperformance
freeride board. The Club Vass instructors
were so inspired by it that they were even
looping (inset) and pulling off advanced
freestyle tricks on it! By the end of the
week the more advanced beginners were
beginning to appreciate it too.
Popularity: Sneaked into a few top three
slots by the end. Undoubtedly it would have
been even more popular as time went on.
Others to Consider: RRD also do the Easy
Rider range, see previous.
Overall: A really interesting concept! Not a particularly easy board to
learn on from scratch, but if you’re very light, prepared to learn your
balance the hard way early on, and accept that it’s always going to be
fairly wobbly in light winds, it’s a brilliant option because it gives you
so much to grow into. Particularly well suited for kids and lighter
teenagers or ladies.
