National Windsurfing Festival: sSs score 1st and 2nd in the Team event.

    8th Sep 2009 @ 08:13:40 AM

The sSs windsurf team were out in force at the National Windsurfing Festival at Hayling Island last weekend.

The pressure was on for the battle of the brands tag race and competition was fierce with many of the UK's top windsurfers prepared to fight hard to prove whose boards and sails were the best.

SeaSprite Sports fielded two teams, one for RRD boards and one for Ezzy sails, both racing on magnificent RRD X-Fire 112's and powered by 7.5m and 8.5m Ezzy Freeride sails.

Lining up on the beach for the start the banter was high and with most of the other brands launching on dedicated race sails and with only 12 knots of wind it looked like the sSs teams were going to under-powered compared to the competition.

The format was simple: Each Tag team comprised three team riders from each importer and one enthusiastic sailor from the amassed 300 competitors who had to race from the beach, around two bouys and back to hand over to the next sailor. The finish involved running to a finish line at the top of the beach as soon as the last sailor was back.

The sSs teams were Gavin Bayliss (Mr Weathercam), Adam Sims and Connor Bainbridge (Winners) & Jon Metcalfe, James Cox and Nick Beaney (2nd team to finish).

With the honour of the brands at stake the emotions ran high and the crowd fuelled the pressure with lots of useful comments and tips for the team riders...

Thanks go to all who raced and proved that not only is it easy on an Ezzy, but that the RRD X-Fires are as fast as Finian Maynard needs them to be...
