Heavy winds...bring out the toys...even your dads!
3rd Sep 2009 @ 12:31:02 PM
sSs Team Rider, Ian Roberts was coaching at the Techno World Championships at Weymouth last week. With 30 – 35 knot winds on two of the event days, racing was abandoned and this meant it was time to bring out the toys, all the toys...
The previous month at a surprise 60th Birthday bash, Mike Roberts, general windsurfing legend in the North West (and father of Ian) received the surprise of his life – an RRD t-shirt....
...and then he was given his RRD FireRide 135!
The shock and surprise was clear for all to see. “I just can’t wait to get on the water” Mike stated, having been presented the board by Ian. The FireRide is awesome and initial feedback from the tests show the board is simply the best on the market for it’s type.
Ian took the advantage of the recent trip to Weymouth to try the FireRide and as the conditions got trickier with lots of chop and unpredictable sea’s, it was out with the RRD Twin Tip 100 which can just continue to perform in very demanding conditions.
Add to this the indestructible performance of an Ezzy and bingo! An awesome day was had by all and it gave Robbo the chance to complete the flat water forwards which started a few weeks ago with Jem Hall. The mantra of “If you don’t go, you won’t know” was perfect for the day. Here’s to more heavy conditions and the launch of the RRD 2010 Year 15 range – which looks amazing!
Having an audience of keen parents around meant that some great pics were taken too – it was also a welcome break for all from the demands of competing at the highest level.
