More Twin Tip Joy from the North

    26th May 2009 @ 05:28:11 PM

sSs Team Rider, Ian Roberts, spends much of his time coaching the next generation of UK racing windsurfers in his role as an RYA coach, but when he gets time off its generally for some freestyle. This is what he has to say about his new Twin Tip...

''What a board! Similar to fellow SSS team rider Carl Tomlinson, I’ve been stuck for somewhere to sail recently with West Kirby out of action. So when a good forecast coincided with the arrival of a new RRD Twin Tip 100 and a coaching trip to Pitsford (Northampton), I couldn’t resist!

With the wind blowing 25 – 30 knots, I thought I would have too much board volume to sail, and particularly to try tricks on. This just wasn’t the case. The board is an absolute cracker and went really well with my Ezzy Freewave 5.0m.

Decent chop at Pitsford meant big airs could be gained in the middle of the reservoir, whilst the chop flattened off just about enough to work the spocks near the shore.

Particularly impressive is the speed control of the board – there were several slalom boards out on the water, which I thought would overtake me easily, but this just wasn’t the case. The board also responds well to slowing down slightly to go for the next freestyle move.

Compared to other freestyle boards on the market I have tried, the new Twin Tip maintains it’s position as the easiest board to develop freestyle moves on.
