Adam Humphrey back from injury!
30th Mar 2008 @ 08:15:03 PM
After a slight mishap about 5 minutes before my heat at the UKWA West Wittering wave event i managed to tear the ligaments in my ankle and knee. After a rather lengthy spell on crutches, ive been recovering and building up the strength in my leg. Ive still been on the water doing some work on sailing yachts on the isle of wight, but when that one big forecast came our way, of 6 - 7 meter swell and topping 50 knots, it was time to see what the island had to offer.
Monday saw a rather lengthy drive around the island finding a beach that was possible to launch from, it was three hours before high tide and there wasnt a single bit of beach on the island. We settled on Sandown, and the only way to launch was of the wall next to the pier. Logo high, side shore, and blowing dogs of chains. What a way to slowly build up my first sail since injury and take it easy.
These conditions continued for the next 3 days, and i thought id never say it, but it was boarder line to windy to sail! Gurnard Point was the location offering conditions similar to that at the gorge, big swell and chop out back and slightly choppy on the inside.
Ive been ofshore for the last few weeks so am hoping that a windy forecast is due soon to test out some more of the islands spots. |
