Rrd Wave Cult 85
At a Glance
The Wave Cult line is RRD’s only waveboard range, with the 3 smallest boards designated HardCore for more down the line sailing. This 85L board comes with RRD’s typically artistic and colourful graphics, with a sanded deck to reduce weight and a polished underhull. The WaveCult line all have a rounded planshape, and the 85L is no exception with a relatively wide nose and tail. Fittings are excellent, with integrated heelpads and comfortable inboard footstraps. A G10 23cm power box fin is supplied with the board.
Ride and Handling
The RRD feels buoyant and stable, and gets up onto the plane very early. It has a very comfortable ride courtesy of the soft deck pads and an easy controllable nature over chop, giving it a good top speed. Heavy chop is handled very well the board always feeling controllable, yet it still retains a loose feel. The board’s composure gives it great potential for jumping and it feels light in the air, with the cushioned deck pads making for soft landings.
Manoeuvres
The Wave Cult makes tacks and gybes easy, having plenty of width in front of the mast track and carving smoothly round gybes. When riding waves the board is one of the most forgiving boards available, it turns very well off the back foot and drives effectively off the front. It is very easy to bottom turn, tracing a slighter wider arc, and allows a satisfying top turn, but doesn’t respond so well when pushed tight into the turn.
Target
The RRD is excellent for getting to grips with wavesailing and improving riding technique, it is a very easy board to sail and allows the less experienced rider to make the most out of the conditions. It’s possible that some very advanced riders may find the board too easy and not radical enough in waves; these riders should look the smaller Hardcore Waves which will suit them better. For most it is excellent in both onshore and sideshore waves and also a great board for bump and jump being smooth, fast and comfortable.
+ Unrivalled performance for inexperience wavesailors.
_ Expert sailors will prefer the Hardcore Wave for radical wave riding.
* A really pleasurable board, providing top notch performance in a complete package.
